Beyond coach Christian Chukwu's sack, Tuesday, former Super Eagles coach Paul Hamilton says only miracle like it happened four years ago will lead Nigeria to Germany 2006 World Cup. Not after we had surrendered vital points to Rwanda and Angola.
To the generality of football fans the issue is no longer whether coach Christian Chukwu should be sacked or not, but what can be done to remedy the already bad situation.
Paul Hamilton says sacking the Enugu- born tactician is not the solution, even when the former disappointed him with the team's pattern in the game against Angola in Kano.
" Sacking Chukwu does not solve our problems in any manner. It only boils down to the fact that we will be starting all over again. When you bring in a fresh set of people to handle the team what do you want them to achieve?" Hamilton asked.
What I've noticed, Hamilton added, is that coach Chukwu has brought in strangers to ruin his team." Most of our players have become strangers in their own country. They hardly know the city of Kano. These players were all in the country yet they decided to stay away and report to camp at their own time. How can anybody say that Kano was not the best place for them to play, when our NFA are also run by strangers!.
Chukwu made things so easy for the players, such that they knew those that would make the team or not. When you allow players the freedom of knowing that they are indispensable, they treat matches with levity. When we were in the national team, the excitement was always with the uncertainty of who will be on the team.
It was very glaring that the players did not know what they wanted for themselves. The weather is no excuse for the players. When will this problem of struggling to qualify for the mundial end? "
The man fondly called Wonder Boy of Nigerian football stated that it was evident that the Super Eagles played without a mission. "Hardly will you see a hungry dog play with a well fed dog. In the first place they are not in the same category.
"In this case, the Angolans were hungrier than our boys and that was why they gave it their all. They were set to even beat us on our own soil. These days, we play our home games as if we are playing away." he noted
The former coach at various levels of the national team stated that the only way out of the present situation is to use players that are hungry for action and not the ones that already see themselves as lords. The zeal of the younger players is what we need to take us out of this quick sand.
