ENUGU - A member of the House of Representatives representing Enugu North and South, Chief Goddy Agbo, wants Nigerians to support the federal government's bid for the United Nation''s Security Council seat, saying the country was more qualified than other African countries jostling for the position.

Agbo, who spoke at the South East Zonal workshop on United Nations Reform in Enugu said Nigeria was better prepared now than ever to be accorded the position, stressing that the current administration had done a lot to bring lasting peace to Africa.

According to him, allowing the country to have a test of the UN permanent seat was the only way the world could show appreciation for all the sacrifice Nigeria and its people had given in the course of the unity and progress of the world.
The workshop was organized by the Enugu State University of Science and Technology [ESUT] under the auspices of the Committee on National Awareness on United Nations Reform in the Presidency.

He said that under the leadership of President Obasanjo at the African Union among many other world bodies, there had been remarkable improvement of the rating of Africa by other world countries, arguing that there was need to consolidate on these gains.

'Nigeria has contributed a lot towards ensuring that Africa remains united. Under the leadership of President Obasanjo, a lot had been done in Africa and I believe that this elicited the country's bid for the UN seat. The position is one that will give the country enough opportunity to better the lot of Africa which had been relegated to the background in global affairs.

I therefore, think that it is something that requires the support of all including all lovers of good things in Africa to enable the nation achieve". he said.

Agbo said that already, the House of Representatives had given its blessings to the executive to ensure that the dream was realized, adding that intense efforts would be made in that regard when the House resumes from its recess next week.
