Police Smash 2 Robbery Gangs


Two notorious armed robbery gangs, who initially operated at Northern Cameroon, and recently relocated to Nigeria, operating along Maiduguri-Damboa and Maidu-guri-Damaturu roads, have been smashed by the Police.

Seven members of the gangs, along with their leaders, Hussaini Isa of Jakusko town in Yobe State, and Adamu Adamu of Sulemanti Ward, Maiduguri, were arrested.

Borno State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar, while briefing journalists said leader of the first gang, Hussaini Isa, confessed to the crime; adding that he started robbery four years ago.

Abubakar siad Hussaini's gang was earlier operating at Northern Cameroon before most of the members decided to move west ward into the hinterland of northern Nigeria.
"Hussaini decided to remain behind and recruit new members to form a gang, and they were operating along Maiduguri-Damboa and Maiduguri-Damaturu roads," he said.

He said the leader of the second gang admitted that they have been operating for the past five years along Damboa-Gwoza, Bama-Banki and Maiduguri-Damboa roads.

The suspects further revealed that one late Garba Kwayam and Amchide in Cameroon Republic are their major suppliers of ammunition, adding that each ammunition is bought at N350, while riffle costs of N80,000..

The Commissioner said all the nine suspects arrested are inhabitants of Borno and Yobe states.
He said suppliers of the ammunition hide them inside local mattresses to avert scrutiny.

Ammunition recovered from the gangs include six AK47 riffles, 12 magazines, 160 live ammunition and two cutlasses.
