In its effort to boost participation of private sectors in providing education for the growing population of the country, Crawford University, one of the new private university recently approved by the federal government has received license to operate in Nigeria.

The License was presented by the Minister of Education, Mrs. Chinwe Nora Obaji to the proprietor of the institution and the Overseer of the Apostolic Faith Mission, Rev. Paul Oge Akazue.

The university, which is slated to commence operation in the fourth quarter of this year will start the first phase of its academics programmes with three colleges namely: Natural and Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Business and Social Sciences.

The other two phases involving College of Education and Humanities and the School of postgraduate studies would commence later. Also, the university, which has two campuses would have its main campus situated in Igbesa in Ogun State while Oye in ekiti State would host the College of Agriculture.

According to Rev. Akazue, the auspicious development of policy shift by the Federal Government towards liberalisation of the education sector, particularly giving opportunity to the private sector to partner with it in higher education development was a major and attractive opportunity to the Apostolic Faith to contribute its quota to the Nigerian educational development.

While noting the Church's commitment to fundamental, trinitarian and envagelism through its mission in praying, preaching and publishing, which has enabled millions of lost humanity to know Christ, Rev. Akazue empahasised that the Church's involvement in education is not for money making or commercial enterprise, rather, it is under taking the venture because it believes it has a sacred and patriotic duty to lend a helping hand towards the alleviation of the ills that are plaguing all the tiers of education in Nigeria.

"Crawford University is a bold attempt by the church at diversifying into the third tier of education. The church strongly feels the urge to diversify into the third tie of education, starting with establishment of a university, towards the enhancement of patriotism and moral excellence as well as the building of self-confidence in individuals, which is borne out of creativity, inventiveness and dynamism in solving problems", Rev. Akazue explained.
