Leader of the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo has declared that in the light of present circumstances in the country, the people of the Niger Delta have decided to take what is theirs as of right.
Asari who spoke exclusively to the Telegraph said "there is a great difference between revenue derivation and resource control"
He said the confab was talking in terms of percentages but noted that the people of the Niger Delta had since passed that stage.
"The issue of resource control, he
strongly remarked "is non negotiable!"
Asari 's rhetoric might be harsh, but he is not alone.
The way thing are despite calls for caution many in the region may be prepared to lay down their lives in pursuit of the resource control issue.
Many South-Southerners argue that it is only when the nation allows the principle of resource control to hold sway that it can then begin to talk of true federalism.
The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force revealed that the Niger Delta People were in no mood to continue to accept a situation where does who do not own resource determine what those who have it should receive.
Said he, "the patience of our people is running out. They are crying for understanding and no one seems to care. They are doing their best to let the international community know about their plight but no one appears to be listening.'
"Now, our people feel it is time to take what is ours, and take what is ours we shall regardless of the odds against us.
"Let me say this, this the height of exploitation, and as a people it is becoming increasingly difficult to swallow the bitter pills that are being pushed through our throats", he stated.
"It is as if some one is asking you, what will you do?", He stressed, that is why the Niger Delta people are saying "we shall take what belongs to us, and we mean every inch of what we have said in the past and what we are saying even now.
