Rapists invade College of Agriculture, Akure

Rapists numbering about ten at the weekend invaded the female hostel of the College of Agriculture, Akure, raping and maiming the students.

Rapists numbering about ten at the weekend invaded the female hostel of the College of Agriculture, Akure, raping and maiming the students.

The armed robbers turned rapists beheaded a security man and injured another in their quest to gain entry into the school campus located at the outskirts of the town.

The real mission of the armed bandits was to rob the students of their mobile phones, money and other valuables but went on a sex rampage forcing no few than 15 of the female students to rounds of sex against their wish.

Eyewitness account said that the robbers-turned-rapists stormed the college around 1:30am and operated for about four hours leaving a tale of woes behind.

When Daily Independent visited the scene of the incident, bloodstains were seen all over the floors and walls of the hostels as female pants and undies littered the ground.

It was further learnt that the attack on the college might not be unconnected with the N10,000 allowance received by the students who just came back from industrial training on Tuesday as the robbers allegedly demanded for the money during the attack.

Most of the victims of rape were reportedly coming from a night vigil when the hoodlums waylaid them, beating and raping the ladies on bare ground by the roadside.

The students' union leader, Ojo Rotimi Kolawole, stated that the attack was the sixth since the beginning of the year, stressing that the robbers always take advantage of the security lapses of the college.

Kolawole also stated that the male and female hostels are too far from each other, adding that the bushy environment of the female hostel provides a convenient hiding place for hoodlums.

Provost of the college, Dr. A. O. Ayodele, declined to comment on the incident stating that his major concern was to ensure that the wounded victims were given proper medical attention.

Following the incident, the farmers in training at the weekend staged a peaceful protest against the incessant robbery attack blaming it on the poor security condition of the college, while urging the college authorities to find a lasting solution to the security problems of the school.

Policemen in two patrol vehicles from the state police command, who were on hand to maintain peace among the students, prevented the situation from getting out of hand.
