Royal father fights for police


The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, has called on the Federal Government to ensure adequate welfare package for police in the frontline of the war against crime. The call came on the heels of the recent exchange of gunfire between the police and armed robbers at the Surulere end of Lagos a fortnight ago.

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, has called on the Federal Government to ensure adequate welfare package for police in the frontline of the war against crime. The call came on the heels of the recent exchange of gunfire between the police and armed robbers at the Surulere end of Lagos a fortnight ago.

The traditional ruler appealed to government to compensate policemen because of their involvement in crime fighting.

He spoke during the visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone II, Mr. Idris Mohammed, to his palace, telling the police hierarchy of the need for adequate compensation for the men who lay down their lives for the survival of the state.
Responding, the AIG explained that he came to Ogbomoso to see to the welfare of Police men attached to the zone.

He said: "I am here to campaign to them to shun corruption and also to tell them how to put in their best in the job, which will enable them to be good ambassadors of the police."
Also, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Moses Omo Anegbode, said that the police had succeeded in checking hoodlums within Oyo/ Ogbomoso expressway, adding "we have reduce crime waves, managing crisis like boundary disputes, chieftaincy tussles, and we have been trying our best in supporting the police to combat crime."
The traditional ruler called on the police to open more stations in Ogbomoso town, noting that there is the need to equip the police to enable it combat crime.
