Unilorin denies deaf students admission

I hereby bring to the attention of JAMB registrar, Ahmed Salim, the fact that the University of Ilorin has not been giving admission to deaf students in the past two years, despite the fact that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has equipped Unilorin to accept and train deaf students.

It is on record that the University of Ilorin is the only higher institution in Nigeria that has special facilities to train deaf students.

The reason cited by the institution's management for this unusual discrimination is that JAMB has not been sending the list of deaf students to it; hence, it does not know those who are deaf among the numerous applicants to the institution.

I am, therefore, requesting JAMB authorities to take note of this lapse by ensuring that the names are sent as at when due to the institution, to enable it make provision for such students.

The applicants usually signify their handicap in JAMB application form.
