BENIN CITY - THE Shepherd-in-charge of the Celestial Church of Christ Oshoffa Parish, Benin City, Prophet Emmanuel Ojo Agge, weekend escaped assassination in the hands of suspected assassins, who invaded his Benin City residence.
The bandits unleashed havoc on members of the Prophet's family when they (bandits) could not find him.
He has since forwarded a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero and the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abass Murktar, alleging that some members of his congregation who also belong to a certain cult group are behind the attack on his life because of his alleged refusal to join them.
Following the petition, the Edo State police command have beefed up security at his residence and the church premises, just as hundreds of mobile policemen have been deployed in strategic areas in the city, following recent reports of assasination attempts on some politicians in the state.
Vanguard gathered that the suspected assasins numbering over eight, stormed the prophet's residence at about 4:00 am on Saturday, but unknown to them, he was not in town. They therefore pounced on his wife and children, riddled his home with bullets and disappeared, leaving a note that they would find him wherever he was hiding, unless he agrees with their demands.
When newsmen contacted Prophet Agge where he was taking refuge, there was a large number of heavily armed security operatives around him.
The cleric, however, appealed to the security men to allow the journalists in as he would want to narrate his ordeal for the people to know what is happening to him. He explained that his ordeal began when he started building the parish, which according to him, is the biggest Celestial parish in the world, as some members of his congregation who belong to a certain cult group requested that he joined them or quit the church.
Said he: 'Before I started the building, there was already a faction in the church, but I do not belong to any of the factions. I always have been trying to see that there is unity in the church. But unfortunately, there are certain people who do not want peace in the church because of their ungodly way of life. They are not Christians, they are fetish and they want me to join their cult but I said as a prophet of God, I will resist it."
