The Director General, National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administrations and Control, (NAFDAC), Dr. Dora Akunyili has disclosed that the agency has reduced the level of incidence of fake drugs by over 80 per cent from what it was in 2001, in its war against counterfeit and substandard products and drugs.

Akunyili made the disclosure at the June 2005 monthly breakfast meeting of the South African Chamber of Commerce sponsored by Bendel Brewery in Lagos on Wednesday.
Reviewing successes recorded by the agency and challenges it is facing, the NAFDAC chief said the transparent manner the agency had been run since 2001, coupled with observance of principles of corporate governance, had helped Nigeria achieved 100 per cent successes.
These successes, according to her, have opened the floodgate of opportunities for the country which include the increase in production of local pharmaceutical industries.
