Ago-Iwoye killings:Oba may be quizzed


Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Rasak Adenugba, accused of opening fire on hundred of students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) may be quizzed by the Police, even as the Ogun State Government announced the constitution of a 5-man Panel of Inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the crisis.

A top police source told Sunday Sun that although the traditional ruler had explained the circumstances which led to the razing of his palace by the students, the police authorities were not satisfied with his explanation.

The same source also told Sunday Sun that a detention camp was allegedly discovered, yesterday in the palace by the police.
"Yes, we discovered what you people will call detention camp in the palace. Some students who have been detained there were freed by the police. We also recovered from there, dangerous weapons including arms and ammunition and charms," the police source disclosed.

The Ogun State Police Commisisoner, Mr. Tunji Alapini who visited the troubled town, has however denied the existence of the detention camp, saying, " I am not aware of any detention camp in the town, let alone the palace."

Already, 13 members of the vigilante group who reportedly killed 10 students in a reprisal attacks after the students razed down the monarch's palace, have been arrested and now undergoing interrogation at Ago-Iwoye police station. They would be moved to the state Police Command this week.
Alapini said calm had returned to the troubled town, adding that police presence in the ancient town was gradually being withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the panel of inquiry headed by Major S. A. Keku (rtd) according to a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Niran Malaolu, would be inaugurated by the state Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel this week in Abeokuta.
The panel which has three weeks to submit its report according to the statement would begin its sitting immediately after inauguration.

Other members of the panel are Professor Deji Adkeunle, Otunba Kola Abdul and Prince Ayoola Adekunle, while Alhaji Fatai Sadiku, a career civil servant would serve as secretary.
