HOODLUMS yesterday invaded the Federal College of Agriculture Akure, Ondo State killing one of the night guards Mr. Kayode Adeyemi 37 and reportedly raped about 16 female students of the college.
An unconfirmed source said that the hoodlums also kidnapped two female students. As news of the invasion spread, worried parents and guardians stormed the college yesterday to confirm what had become of their wards.
No fewer than 12 of the students are now hospitalized at the General Hospital Akure and other private hospitals after the ugly incident.
This ugly incident is said to be the sixth time the hoodlums would invade the college within the last two years to rape, steal and injure the students. Consequently, upon the latest invasion of the college, the students in their hundreds protested by barricading the expressway calling on the college authorities to urgently provide needed security for them.
Vehicular movement was disturbed for hours yesterday until the state police command and the authorities of the college persuaded the students to allow free flow of traffic and thereafter shut the college in a bid to review the security problem in the college.
Vanguard learnt that the hoodlums dressed in mobile uniform invaded the college at about midnight, tied the two security guards before proceeding to the female hostel.
Some female students who reportedly went for rehearsal and other engagements within the college were reportedly raped and were asked to lead them (hoodlum) to the female hostel. On arrival at the female hostel, they reportedly collected their handsets and several thousands of naira from the students before they took turn to rape the students.
About 16 female students that refused to be raped were reportedly macheted by the hoodlums.
Vanguard gathered that one of the female students who narrowly escaped phoned a male colleague within the college premises but before help could come, the hoodlums had reportedly fled into the bush. The male students of the college mobilized and searched through the bushes around but could only find some bloodstained and charred pants and bras and other belongings of the female students. Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Bolodeoku Oluwafemi, the coordinator of the committee on the Defence on Human Rights (CDHR) in the college said that the hoodlums killed the night guard
