In a bid to make the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Chinedu Nebo said he has concluded plans to organise an ICT sensitissation workshop for the benefit of principal officers of the university.
In a bid to make the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Chinedu Nebo said he has concluded plans to organise an ICT sensitissation workshop for the benefit of principal officers of the university.
Commissioning the Management Information System (MIS) jointly installed in the university by the Global Payment Services (GPS) and Standard Trust Bank (STB), the Vice-chancellor stated that the institution needed to become ICT compliant, adding that his administration was progressively pursuing e-learning.
To achieve the objective, Prof. Nebo noted that the university has gone into partnership with Afri-hub to provide practical ICT training for students to enhance their computer skills.
He thanked Global Payment Services and Standard Trust Bank for the gesture and pledged to integrate the faculties into the network, connected by underground fibre optics, already being enjoyed by principal officers of the university.
The Managing Director of GPS, Mr. Kingsley Eze said the project was aimed at driving ICT capacity building in tertiary institutions which are supposed to be the custodians of knowledge in the world.
He lamented that there were so many threats to the ability of universities to play this role in Nigeria.
'So, what we have done is to help them actualise their dreams by providing the necessary facilities, funding and expertise to ensure that these things come into being," he said.
He acknowledged the importance of support after deployment of IT infrastructure and assured that whatever was installed in UNN would not be neglected.
Similarly, the Managing Director of Standard Trust Bank, Dr. Tony Elumelu who spoke through his zonal leader, Mr. Ray Nnam, said the commissioning of the MIS was in fulfilment of one of his numerous promises made during the last founder's day of the institution.
