Britain to Strenghten Ties with S/West


British High Commission in Nigeria has set up the regional office of Department for International Development (DFID) in Lagos to strengthen the ties between the South-west states and British government.

British High Commission in Nigeria has set up the regional office of Department for International Development (DFID) in Lagos to strengthen the ties between the South-west states and British government.

This was disclosed by the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. David Wyatt, during a courtesy call on Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said British government was very much in support of National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) of the federal government.

According to him, the regional office would be established to render useful assistance towards State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (SEEDS).

The envoy said Lagos DFID office would enhance great opportunities for development in the South-west states.

He added that strategic meetings would be held with government where DFID regional coordinator would unfold its programmes.

In his response, Daniel affirmed that the economic development of Nigeria was tied to that of Britain, pledging his support and cooperation to DFID programmes.

Daniel added that his support would be towards the implementation of SEEDS.

The British High Commissioner was accompanied by the South-west regional coordinator of DFID, Mr. Ordu Obibuaku and Programme Officer, DFID Nigeria, Mr. James Kukoyi.
