Senator I.S Martyns-Yellowe who received best senator in Nigeria award declared in Abuja that he was humbled by the role God had played in the strides he has registered on the floor of the senate.
He was speaking after he had been bestowed with the honour of the best senator in Nigeria by the Leadership Development Centre Abuja which is his second since election to the senate.
The first was in 2002 and it was from the media led by the highly authoritative Guardian newspaper.
Reflecting on the award in a post award chat with newsmen, Martyns-Yellowe gave God the glory, saying that there is very little he could have done as a medical practitioner and senator without his guidance.
The best senator in Nigeria thanked the organizers for the honour and promised to continue to live and conduct himself in accordance with the high standards required of his office.
Also honoured alongside the senator from Rivers State were 10 other distinguished Nigerians drawn from various fields.
Those honoured included the Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, and his Kwara counterpart, Dr Bukola Saraki.
Both were honoured with best governor award and the award for exemplary leadership respectively.
Others were Rtd. Col. Tunde Akogun who is representing Edo State at the House of Representatives, Senator Gregory Nnaji, Mike Kalango representing Nembe, Bayelsa State in the House of Representatives and Mr. Mark Imoni Amarere, an ace broadcaster with AIT, Abuja.
Amarere won the best TV Presenter Award.
In a citation on Senator I.S. Martyns-Yellowe, the organizers said the lawmaker was being honoured for the numerous bills that he has helped push through the floor of the upper house.
Describing him as a "bill machine", they said they were exceedingly impressed with his track record, noting that his nomination and eventual ratification as the best man for the award was based on international screening standards.
Before being elected into the senate, Martyns-Yellowe was the Chief Consultant Neuro-Psychiatrist in charge of the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Rumuigbo.
