A student of the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, has told how her mother was raped in her presence when she visited her school.
Agatha said that her mother came all the way from her home state, Delta, with foodstuff and some money for her.
Speaking in tears, she said that around 3 p.m. while her mother was preparing to leave, they both began to hear heavy rumble of thunder and the sky suddenly became overshadowed by heavy cloud threatening a downpour. The daughter said she convinced her mother to sleep over till the next day.
They both slept off and were enjoying the sweet sleep on a cool night when she was rudely woken up by a hard knock on her head. She instantly sat up only to be confronted by masked intruders who had gained entry into her apartment. Agatha woke up, to see torchlights being flashed by the boys from hell. Few minutes after this, the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) restored light and she saw six men armed with gun, dagger and other dangerous weapons.
In her words: "When I noticed that they were armed and had their faces covered with masks I knew that they were robbers. So, I summoned courage and asked them what they wanted."
She said that to her surprise the gang told her that their mission was that of the devil. They said that they came to rob, rape and kill. They ordered that I should bring out the money my mother brought for me. As we were exchanging words, my mother woke up from her sleep and started shouting blood of Jesus but they asked her to keep quiet or else, she would be shot.'
"So, I told them that my mother only brought N5000 and some foodstuff. They became infuriated and one of them said: ‘Let us show them pepper as we did to Felicia and her friends at Kpirikpiri.'
"Immediately, three of them grabbed me and tore my clothes while the other three went after my mother.
"They had carnal knowledge of her without mercy. Later, the three of them who dealt with my mother came over to me saying that my mother could not withstand one person and I have to suffer for her."
Agatha said they had a field day abusing her. "We couldn't raise any alarm because we were aware that even if we shouted or screamed, nobody would hear us because of the rain and the devils capitalized on this. We suffered till they were satisfied and zoomed off with the sum of N5000 and a gallon of red oil."
The student, who was testifying at a Pentecostal Church in Lagos, said that she was praising God because when her mother and herself went for HIV/AIDS test after the abuse, the result was negative.
She revealed further that about four weeks after the sordid incident, a strange dimension was introduced to the sad incident when she received a parcel from a courier company. "It contained a written apology from one of the criminals who said he had repented and expressed regret for their action. He went on to inform that one of them died the following day after the assault on my mother. The repentant rapist said that he was doing a 40-day fasting after which he promised to reveal his identity as well as those of members of his gang.
The victim brandished the said letter of apology and the pastor of the church advised her to demonstrate the spirit of a Christian by forgiving the repentant rapist. He called for prayers for the sinful boys so that God would completely arrest their souls.
