Lagos Stands Still for Kanu

Kanu, who emerged from the Standard Trust Bank MasterCard launch, which took place at its headquarters on Oyin Jolayemi Street, was shocked at the massive crowd of people including security operatives and members of the Mobile Police Force, popularly known as MOPOL and society miscreants otherwise known as Area Boys who overwhelmed others, clearing the traffic, chanting "Papilo, Papilo".

The incident, which left motorists scampering for safety as a result of the chaotic manner members of the MOPOL numbering over a dozen and the Area Boys controlled traffic all in an attempt to ensure that the Eagles player had an easy passage before other motorists.

Kanu who drove in a dark ash colour Audi A6 with registration number XL 94 AAA ostensibly savoured the executive treatment as he meandered through the Sanusi Fafunwa Street in Victoria Island unhindered.

When accosted one of the Mobile Police officers who accompanied the player said: "Honestly, I feel very excited to have done this for Kanu. You know it is not easy to meet these guys who are stars across the world every day. I only see him once in a while on television but see me almost touching him in flesh and blood."

When asked if he had not anticipated any monetary reward from the England-based player, he said, "It never crossed my mind. I did what I did because I love the way he plays and conducts himself. I feel very happy and I can share my experience today with my friends and family members."

Kanu teamed up with his colleagues in Kano yesterday.
