President Olusegun Oba-sanjo weekend described as a pride to the country his Special Assistant and Head, Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili.
Obasanjo spoke at a civic reception organised in Ezekwesili's honour by her native Ukpor community in Nnewi South Locl Govern-ment area of Anambra State
The President, who was represented by Works Minister, Adeseye Ogunlewe, said Ezekwesili is an intelligent, upright and a dilligent officer who has saved Nigeria over N100 billion in the last two years for her painstaking adherence to due process in the award of government contracts.
'Madam Due Process' as we call her is very intelligent, dilligent, upright and a pride to the Nigeria nation. She has saved Nigeria over N100 billion through her Due Process office in the last two years. She is a good member of the anti-corruption initiative of the present administrstion and without her all the roads constructed in Nigeria since the inception of the administration would have been impossible.
'Only posterity will judge and place her in her proper position," he said. He congratulated her on behalf of the Federal Government but urged her to keep the embers of her good works up.
Ukpor Improvement Union, President-General, who put the reception together, Prince John Okoli, said Ezekwesili represents the old virtues of principle, honour, and transparency for which Ukpor people were known for, adding that she represents strength, ruggedness and the never say die spirit which is 'common among people of our clime and topography."
Her home coming therefore , he said , was to help them reflect once again on the original ways of their people, the old order , and see her as a model of what an Ukpor citizen should be. 'Parents would point to her as a model for their children , and children would point to her as the person they would want to be like', he said.
