Former OMPADEC director arraigned for forgery


A former deputy director in the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission (OMPADEC), George T.C Betts, recently appeared before a Port Harcourt magistrate court charged with forgery.

A former deputy director in the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission (OMPADEC), George T.C Betts, recently appeared before a Port Harcourt magistrate court charged with forgery.

Charged under PMC/1665c/2005, before Chief Magistrate L.G. Adooker Esq. the allegations are that the accused on the 25th day of October 1993 at Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt magisterial district, signed a deed of assignment purporting it to have been signed by one Eziwoke I. Wokoma his uncle conceding to him (the accused) ownership and administration of a property at 114 Bonny street, Port Harcourt, which is said to be a family house.

The prosecutor said the accused by the act committed an offence punishable under section 467 of the criminal code, cap 37 volumes 11, law of Rivers State of Nigeria.

The complaint was lodged by one Naomi Betts, sister to the accused, for herself and on behalf of the rest of the family said to have suffered exclusion and deprivation at the hand of the accused.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the matter was adjourned to June 29, 2005 for hearing.
