Abia State Government on Tuesday clamped down on 12 filling stations within in Umuahia, for selling their products above government approved price.
The general-coordinator of the state monitoring team on petroleum products, Chief Tony Anyanwu, who monitored the activities of petroleum dealers, told THISDAY that the inability of some marketers to implement the new Federal Government directive on sales of petroleum product was giving the state government enough concern despite the awareness created on the matter.
He, therefore warned that those caught selling above the pump prices would be treated as economic saboteurs and would be sanctioned by government, whereby they would be made to pay the stipulated fines or have their stations sealed.
Anyanwu said his team was out to sanitise the system by making sure that the petroleum products were made available to the consumers without imposing undue hardship on them.
