Speaking during the destruction exercise monitored by the Hisba Group (Sharia Enforcement Agency), at Inkil Village, the Commissioner in-charge of Sharia Implementation in the State, Alhaji Alhassan Dikko, commended the State Government and the people of the State for cooperating and supporting the Commission in its task of cleansing the State of unwholesome activities.
Dikko, who noted that the practice of Sharia System was a way of life for all Muslims and had come to stay in the State for good, said the exercise was a continuous one.
The destruction of the alcoholic beverages, according to the commissioner, followed several directives to the alcoholic sellers by both the commission and the State Government to no avail, and warned those involved in the sale of alcoholic beverages in the State to desist in their own interest.
While stating that the sale of alcohol in the State was an offence punishable by the Sharia Law of the State, the Commissioner recalled that a soft loan of over N25 million was earlier given to liquor sellers and hoteliers in the State by Governor Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu for them to engage in alternative businesses.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Commiss-ioner, Sharia Law Enforcement in the State, Sharia Commission (Hisba Command), Alhaji Moha-mmed Babangida Moham-med, said about 20 cartons of beer, and 36 cartons of palm wine were recently carfisticated in various parts of the state capital.
Mohammed said the Commission had made several attempts to find possible solution to the issue of the sale of alcohol in the State, adding that in one of the attempts, religious leaders, both Christians and Muslims, as well as community leaders and tribal organizations, had held series of meetings with sellers of the commodity to resolve the issue, but to no avail.
It would be recalled that sometime in September this year, the State Sharia Commission demolished 36 stores and two beer parlours at the Morocco Shanty, along railway road in Bauchi, in its efforts to ensure compliance with the Sharia in the State.
Similarly, the State Government announced the immediate closure of Plaza Hotel along Maiduguri Road, Bauchi, for engaging "in activities that are not in compliance with the state's Sharia Legal System", as well as involved in illegal activities that impinge on security efforts of government in the state.
