The Guardian learnt that more than 100 suspects are being detained by the State Criminal Investigation Department over robbery allegations.

The state Police Spokesman, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who disclosed the latest murder incident, said one Osita Ndukwube, a resident of 39, Hassan Idowu Street, was stabbed on the face by yet unidentified assailants.

Ojajuni said: "He was taken to the hospital but that he later died. The scene was visited by policemen from Aguda Police Station and his body was taken to the mortuary pending investigation".

A breakdown of the incident said that in January, 11 people were killed while suspects were arrested.

The figure was higher in February as 17 cases were recorded while in March and April, 28 of such incidents occurred.

The cases are being investigated by Homicide Division of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Lagos.

Ojajuni urged members of the public to assist the police by reporting criminals who live among them.

He said that only such assistance would prevent the rising cases of crime and avert further killings.
