The police in Lagos have begun a manhunt of the killers of a businessman, who was allegedly stabbed in the face by some assailants at Aguda, Surulere area of the state on Tuesday.
The victim, a resident of 39, Hassan Idowu Street, Aguda, Lagos, was identified as Osita Nchekurube and was said to have been attacked by three men, whose identities were still not known to the police.
No one could really say where the assailants came from but an eyewitness told our correspondent that he saw when the victim was being manhandled by the men and the attempts Nchekurube made to extricate himself from their grip.
The men, our correspondent gathered, overpowered their victim and used broken bottle to stab him on different parts of his face. They left him bleeding and writhing in pain.
Some good Samaritans in the area were said to have taken the agonising man to a hospital in the neighbourhood, but he died shortly after his admission to the hospital.
The incident was reported at Aguda police station from where some policemen visited the scene of the crime. They, however, could not get any trace of the fleeing hoodlums.
At the hospital, the security men, after initial questions posted to some of the officials, collected the corpse and deposited it at the Lagos Island General Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Although nobody has been arrested in connection with the murder, spokesman for the state police command, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, a deputy superintendent of police, who confirmed the murder, stated that the case was being investigated.
