DISTURBED by the increasing accident rate among okada riders, the FRSC has threatened to prosecute reckless okada riders.
Speaking with NAN in Gwagwalada Friday, the unit commander, Malam Abdulrazak Nadume, said that lack of driving skills among okada riders was responsible for a lot of accidents on the road.
Nadume said that the attitude of unqualified okada riders was putting the lives of their passengers and other road users at risk.
He claimed that okada riders were mainly responsible for accidents in the council and that the decision to prosecute them become necessary to check their recklessness.
Nadume recalled that in the past one week about seven accidents involving okada riders claimed three lives as a result of wrongful driving.
"It is unfortunate that innocent people lose their lives due to the recklessness of okada riders," he added.
The unit commander said the corps would monitor the riders and arrest any one found to be driving recklessly.
He admitted that arresting the riders would not be an easy talk, but said his officers had mapped out a strategy to effect such arrest.
