He made the remarks during the Democracy Day thanksgiving service held at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa.
The governor advised parents to pay more attention to their children as any student of the state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) caught engaging in cult activities would not only be expelled from the institution but would be prosecuted.
Restating his belief in the oneness of Nigeria, Chief Alamieyeseigha said: "We must generate ideas that will advance the course of democracy in the country. We must ensure that we emphasize those things that bind us together as a nation. We must all strive to promote unity".
On the economy, he charged the people of the state to work jointly towards diversifying the state's economy. Oil and gas, he asserted, were wasting assets. He advised the economic managers of the state to think of alternative sources of revenue generation.
Wondering what would happen after oil and gas have been exhausted, he said that it has become imperative that the state should turn to agriculture.
"God has given us natural resources, intelligence and skills. What is left is for us to apply our intellect to conquer our environment.
The demand for cassava for instance, is very high. The market is increasing. Agriculture should be our focus", the governor said.
He enjoined the women and youth groups to form co-operative societies and depend less on government, stressing that everything must be done to expand the resource base of the state.
He said the state has all it takes to be a role model in the country, pointing out that the state does not necessarily have to wait for federal allocation before doing certain things.
