The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has screened 3,000 applicants seeking visas to over 15 countries classified as source countries for drug trafficking.
The countries are United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, Russia, Thailand, Singapore, Spain, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Bangladesh and Swaziland.
NDLEA regarded these countries as source countries for hard drug.
A source country is a country that produces hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis, and other psychotropic substances.
In an interview with our correspondent, on Monday, the spokesman for NDLEA, Mr. Jonah Achema, said the screening reduced drug trafficking in the country.
He stated that arrests of travellers screened by the agency had dropped.
'In five years, we have successfully cleared about 3,000 applicants travelling to these countries out of which no drug case had been reported. A good number of the travellers that passed through our system and there had not been anyone involved in drug trafficking," he added.
