Two students die after analgin injection


IBUSA - TWO students of the Federal Government Girls' College (FGGC) Ibusa, Asaba Delta State have been reported dead while a third is laying critically ill at the Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, after the administration of analgin injection on them following the outbreak of malarial fever in the school a few weeks ago.

The deseased students are: Juliet Olugbo, SS3 and Vivian Ezeh, SS1 respectively. The principal of the college Mrs. C.N. Okafor disclosed the sad news to parents, Saturday, during the Parent/ Teacher Association meeting held at Ibusa.

According to her, about 16 students including herself were affected by the malaria outbreak and they were all administered with the analgin injection but unfortunately two of the girls reacted adversely to the drug. After all attempt to contain the effect of the drug failed one of the girls gave up the ghost while the other, still on danger list has been referred to the orthopedic Hospital Enugu for skin grafting operations. The other dead student was said to have died of the contagious hepatitis disease.

Mrs. C.N. Okafor therefore called on all parents and guardians to always take the health of their wards very seriously stressing that what the school has as health clinic is for first- aid purposes only. She decried the situation where parent knowingly dump their wards with various hidden deseases in the school and run away in the mistaken belief that the school authority would take care of them. The principal further thanked the PTA for their wonderful support to the school urging then to continue in their stride.

Earlier, the chairman of the PTA Mr. G.E Ogboriavwen listed some of their assistance to the school and other achievement to include the engagement of eight teaching staff, two clerical officers, two cleaners and four security guards all at a monthly package of N124,000.00. Others are landscaping of the school compound, provision of two blocks of toilet bathrooms and reactivation of abandoned borehole. with network of storage tanks, provision/raising of the school fence to make life more comfortable within the community.
