The micro-project programme of the European Union, EU, has kicked off at Obo Atai in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
The micro-project programme of the European Union, EU, has kicked off at Obo Atai in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
The Zonal Coordinator of the State, Mr. Gabriel Umoh said while addressing the people of the area that the major objective of the European Union is to aid the improvement of the quality of life of local people.
He also said that the micro project programme is designed primarily to create access to opportunities and micro-finance services that would in the long run alleviate the suffering of the under privileged in rural settings through the provision of water projects, development effective transportation systems and the encouragement of better sanitary habits among others.
The coordinator explained that the micro project programme commenced in the Niger Delta region on May 6, 2003. Under the programme, a total of forty-two million Euros or N6,729,000,000 from the Seventh AC European Development Fund would be spent.
He urged the benefitting communities to cooperate by creating a conducive environment for the smooth implementation of Eu's development schemes.
In his speech, the State project manager, Mr Imeh Utuk charged the people to offer appropriate protection for the ongoing project.
He also advised them to relate meaninfully with NGO's that are associated with the programme.
