What is the HIV status of Abraham Durojaiye? Only laboratory test result would whittle down the anxiety and reassure Mr. Idowu whose wife was allegedly raped last week by Abraham, a solographer at a private clinic in Ikorodu, Lagos, where she had gone to attend ante-natal clinic.
While Abraham smells the rod in custody, his victim, Mrs. Idowu, last week gave a blow-by-blow account of how the shameless suspect forced himself on her and stole another man's precious pie. Worse still, he did it without protection, in these days of HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The thought of his wife being forced to submission and subjected to unprotected sex, is one point that has agitated Idowu's mind. And until she is certified okay, the man would certainly not have a sound sleep.
Having missed her monthly period sometime in January, Mrs. Idowu said that the doctor recommended her for scan. It was in the process of being scanned, according to her, that Abraham, the operator, allegedly raped her.
She said: "I have not seen my period since early this year, so the doctor asked me to go for scanning. On May 17, I collected a card (at the hospital on Muniratu Aleje Street) and went to the scanning room where I met the man (Abraham). He showed me a bed to lie on, and asked me to remove my clothes. He instructed me to focus attention on the screen of the scanning machine.
Then he rubbed some oil on my tummy preparatory to start the scan. There was one towel hung somewhere in the room. As I was looking at the screen, he just threw the towel at my face, but when I tried to look up, the towel had already covered my face.
He pressed my face with one hand and placed the other hand on my throat. I struggled and struggled and managed to lay my hands on an instrument and hit him with it. At that point, he removed his hand from my face, but continued to press my throat. Again, I struggled because I couldn't breath well. When I became weak, he climbed on me and forced his way into my private part. He was not wearing pants or condom," the pregnant woman lamented.
Apparently, as he had his way and got carried away by the sheer fun of feasting on another man's estate, Abraham allegedly lost grip, thus giving the woman a leeway to break off.
"As he was doing it, he removed his hands from my throat, so I had some power to push him down. I hurriedly dressed up and rushed to the door but it was locked. I told him to open the door; instead, he started begging me not to tell anybody. Just so that he might open the door, I accepted that I will keep it top secret. Immediately he opened the door, I rushed to tell the doctor. He (doctor) summoned him (Abraham) to his office and asked him, he owned up, but pleaded with the doctor to beg me not to let anyone know what happened."
For Mrs. Idowu, she only managed to conceal the anger that had welled up in her as both Abraham and the doctor tried to pacify her. "I pretended that I wouldn't tell anyone. But they were fools to have thought that I would not tell even my husband."
In anger, she even dumped the prescription and drugs that the doctor allegedly gave her after the incident.
By 11am of the same day, the woman arrived home with bruises all over her face. Ask what the matter was, she reportedly broke down in tears as she narrated her ordeal in the hospital.
Infuriated by her story, Mr. Idowu said he called in the DPO of Igbogbo police station who quickly instructed a cop to pick up Abraham.
He commended his wife for being faithful to him saying: "I see her as a sincere wife and I have confidence in her."
According to Idowu, his wife was later taken to a laboratory where a test was conducted on her. The result reportedly confirmed the presence of spermatozoa in his wife's private.
But what they did not say was if the laboratory analysis included verification for the killer virus.
When news of the incident broke, Abraham was reportedly stripped by an angry mob. It only took the intervention of the police to rescue him.
The doctor on duty, Dr. Seidu, told Sunday Sun that the matter was in court and would not comment on it in the meantime.
Another staff of the hospital, Mr. Kehinde Azeez and manager of the hospital told Sunday Sun that "Abraham had been sent on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of the case."
The DPO of Igbogbo police station where Abraham was detained, Mr. Alonge confirmed his arrest in connection of an alleged rape of a patient.
