Marwa in danger •Assassination plot uncovered

The plot is code-named Operation Black Tiger, and the mission is simple: assassinate former Lagos State military administrator, Brig. Gen Buba Marwa (retd).

The plot is code-named Operation Black Tiger, and the mission is simple: assassinate former Lagos State military administrator, Brig. Gen Buba Marwa (retd).

Daily Sun authoritatively learnt that there is now a high security alert on the retired general, who only recently declared for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a controversial public ceremony in Yola, Adamawa State.

According to security sources in Abuja, four gangs of heavily armed agents were on Saturday, May 28 dispatched to four locations namely Lagos, Adamawa, Kaduna and Abuja to track down Marwa and eliminate him. The sponsor(s) of the planned assault are yet to be identified.

When contacted by Daily Sun, Gen Marwa said he was not aware of the plot, adding, however, that he has been taking precautions about his security.
"Anybody who attempts to attack me anywhere should be prepared to suffer casualties. As a retired General, I don't take my security lightly," he stressed.

He was, however, quick to stress that "ultimate protection lies with the Almighty God and everybody lives within his destiny."

According to security sources, huge sums of money were paid into the bank accounts of members of the assassination squad on Friday, April 29.
Further details of the intelligence report also indicate that arms and ammunition which include mainly Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) as well as rifles were moved form a remote village in Adamawa State about two weeks ago to the capital, Yola, where they were kept in the custody of a security agent.

The four gangs comprising four members (names withheld by Daily Sun) each were said to have been sent to their assigned locations in Jeeps, some of which carry number plates CVU 216, CVU 320, SH 92 but unknown to them, they were also being trailed by security operatives.

Security sources also revealed that the four gangs were mandated to trail Marwa in Kaduna, Adamawa, Abuja and Lagos where he visits often with a view to attack him and make the operation look like an armed robbery.
They were also said to have been armed with RPG due to Marwa's bullet proof cars.

The security alert, sources further revealed, has led to a beef-up of security network around Marwa, especially along his usual routes.
The plot, it was also learnt, may not be unconnected with the retired general's political activities towards the 2007 presidential race.
