Avoid Sedatives, Heavy Food Before Driving-FRSC

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Kwara State, has continued its "ember" months campaign with a call on motorists to avoid sedatives and heavy food before driving.

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Kwara State, has continued its "ember" months campaign with a call on motorists to avoid sedatives and heavy food before driving.

Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr Olakunle Motajo, at the campaign which kicked off at Bode Sa'adu, in Moro Local Government Area of the state argued that heavy meals before driving has its negative effects on drivers' abilities.

He said sedatives or stimulants of any kind are hazardous to driving, as it could stimulate them to doze off while on motion.

"If you must take such drugs or food, avoid driving until its effect has cleared, because it could result in fatal accidents," he said.

He warned drivers against dangerous parking and indiscriminate overtaking, hinting that 50 per cent of road accidents are attributable to such.

He advised motorcyclists to cultivate human relations while on their bikes, and avoid contesting the road with heavy vehicles.

"I want to appeal to okada drivers to stop their uncharitable human behavioural system by re-examining their roles and contributions to the society."

Motajo said since okada has become another means of transportation in the coutry, "we should join hands to ensure that their operations do not affect the safety of road users."
