Impressive Turn-Out for DOT


There has been a considerable increase in the number of persons attended the recently launched Directly Observe Treatment (DOT) centres after compared to the pre-launch period.

There has been a considerable increase in the number of persons attended the recently launched Directly Observe Treatment (DOT) centres after compared to the pre-launch period.

This was disclosed by the Jigawa Chairman of the state's health communication campaign on safe motherhood, drug revolving fund, diarrhoea prevention and home management Alhaji Mukaila Abdullahi during the launch of the campaign in Dutse.

The theme of the campaign which was sloganed "Better Health Begins with You" is being hinged on three aspects, these are: Every pregnancy carries risks, be prepared, clean hands prevent diarrhoea as well as save your child's life from diarrhoea, prepare and give salt sugar solution and keep your family healthy use DRF.

According to Alhaji Abdullahi, this is to be achieved by focusing on increasing consumer awareness and creating demand on safe motherhood, drug revolving fund and diarrhoea.

The programme is been sponsored by the state's Health Ministry, the Partnership for Transforming Health Systems (PATHS) which is a subsidiary of the British Department for International Development (DFID) and the DFID itself.

In his key note address at the launching, the state coordinator of PATHS said, "the programme was initiated in Nigeria because the health indicators in Nigeria are very poor."

Since inception of the programme in the four selected states of Jigawa, Benue, Enugu and Ekiti as well as at the national level in July 2002 a lot has been achieved, he said.

Areas touched according to the coordinator are in tuberculosis control, safe motherhood, drug supply and management, HIV/AIDS among others.
