Abuja council awards N1.5 billion contract for car parks


DOING business in Abuja metropolis may soon become less stressful for motorists who find it difficult to park their cars in proper and secure locations around major facilities in the capital city.

DOING business in Abuja metropolis may soon become less stressful for motorists who find it difficult to park their cars in proper and secure locations around major facilities in the capital city.

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (MFCT) has awarded a N1.5 billion contract to construct four multi level car parks in four locations of the city.

The parks are to be located at Area 10, opposite UTC shopping complex, Area II beside FCDA headquarters, Wuse Zone 4, opposite Inland Bank and area 1, near the neighbourhood shopping centre.

At the bidding process, held at Rockview Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja at the weekend, three companies, D&B Limited, Prince & Princess Limited and Minfa Nigeria Limited, emerged winners to handled the contract, with an estimated period of three years 10 months to complete the job.

Alhaji Mohammed Lawal Yusuf, executive director, Property Development of the Abuja Investment and Properties Development Company (AIPDC) ltd., who represented the managing director of AIPDC at the ceremony explained that the project was intended to provide relief to users of major facilities in the city of Abuja, who found it extremely difficult to park their cars in proper and secure locations, to do one business or the other.

He disclosed that it was the resolve of the MFTC to support private public partnership initiatives by providing titles to the lands and also initiating policies with appropriate agencies with a view to enforcing the law against illegal parking within the Federal Capital Territory (FTC)
