To cleanse Bauchi State of armed robbery bandits, the state Police Command at the weekend shot dead 11 suspected armed robbers and arrested five at two separate operations in Bauchi and far away Zamfara State thus bringing the total number of suspected robbers killed in the last two months to 36.

Displaying their corpses at the command headquarters in Bauchi, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mukhtar Abbas, reiterated the determination of the command to ensure a crime-free society, describing the success recorded by the Police and local hunters in recent times as "a tip of the iceberg as we are going to make the state uninhabitable for the robbers and other criminals still hiding."

The commissioner, who said 6 of the robbers killed left Bauchi for an operation in Zamfara State, explained that "the Police got the information and trailed with them. After their operations, the police intercepted them on their way back, shot dead six and arrested five after a gun battle."

Abbas added that 7 members of the gang escaped while the police recovered arms and amunitions, charms, over N300,000 and electronics including GSM hand sets, saying one of the robbers escaped with serious gun injury which he said would not survive.

The Police boss disclosed that there were 14 different armed robbery gangs with about 140 members operating in and around the state, adding that the police with the help of the vigilante groups had already killed 36 and have arrested over twenty.

According to him, "when the robbery gangs discovered that the state was no longer conducive for them to operate they begin to move to places like Kaduna, Kano and Zamfara States for their operations before the return to their base."

While commending the leader of the vigilante group for their assistance in the fight against crime in the state, the commissioner called on the public to continue to volunteer information to the police for prompt action.

He vowed that no stone would be left unturned in their quest for the total eradication of arm robbery activities and other crimes in the state, noting that his men had the capacity and capability to flush out criminal activities from the state and its environs.
