MASSOB warns govt over Ojukwu

MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned against any attempt to arrest Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu by the Federal Government.

MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned against any attempt to arrest Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu by the Federal Government.

This followed last week's invasion of Ojukwu's Enugu residence by State Security Services (SSS) operatives.

Ojukwu, who was quizzed by the SSS was further invited to appear before the security

outfit in Abuja today.

But in a swift reaction to the development yesterday leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, in a telephone interview with Daily Champion warned the government against a possible arrest of Dim Ojukwu, saying that the government may not be in a position to contain the consequences that will follow the arrest of the prominent Igbo leader.

Chief Uwazurike also said Ndigbo will not tolerate any attempt by the government to ridicule the race by arresting its respected leader, Dim Ojukwu.

"We cannot tolerate this, MASSOB and Ndigbo will never tolerate this. Let the Federal Government bear in mind that Ndigbo will not fold their arms and allow their much respected and reverred leader be messed up by security operatives," Uwazurike warned.

Chief Uwazurike also raised alarm over what he called a plot to assassinate him by government.

The MASSOB leader alleged that government has deployed special security men to the South East to kill him.

Chief Uwazurike said he sighted the operatives in his home town, Okwe in Onuimo local government area, but he narrowly escaped from them.

According to him, government was jolted by the recent success of MASSOB's stay-at-home directive and therefore believed that killing him (Uwazurike) will mark the end of the dream to actualise Biafra.

"They feel that they can force me into exile. I am not going anywhere. I cannot run away from Biafra. Let them do what they like. I am in my country, Biafra," Uwazurike said, pointing out also that three members of the security directorate are currently stationed in Lagos to monitor his movement.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Chike Nwabuwa, told our correspondent that the Imo State command is neither aware of any plot to assassinate Uwazurike nor the presence of men of the security directorate in the state.

He however, said the command will investigate the claim.
