Following the outbreak of gastro-enteritis, over 50 persons have died in Gusua the Zamfara State while over 100 are now receiving treatment as a result of the menace.
Following the outbreak of gastro-enteritis, over 50 persons have died in Gusua the Zamfara State while over 100 are now receiving treatment as a result of the menace.
The menace which resulted to vomiting and diarrhoea was attributed to the drinking of contaminated water by the affected residences.
The situation which started five days ago is now getting worse as both the Federal Medical Centre and State Hospital are fully occupied by the patients of hit by the disease.
Investigation gathered by Saturday Sun shows that at the state hospital, there was no place to admit patients as some were lying on the floor since no bed space was left.
It was further learned that areas affected were mostly within Gusau metropolis. As Saturday Sun went round town it was gathered that at Sabon Fegi area, there was a Qur-anic School that lost seven persons mostly children at the same time.
Confirming the outbreak to newsmen, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Bello Buzu Kaura, explained that the outbreak was as a result of the intake of contaminated water.
Dr. Buzu revealed that he was aware that five people died at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, while fifty-seven persons are on admission at the Centre.
He stated that 19 persons have also been admitted at the General Hospital, Gusau and most of them are responding to treatment.
Kaura revealed that the State government has purchased emergency drugs with N2.5 million, that is already being distributed to the affected areas.
