The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Tuesday, advised the Academic Staff Union of Universities and vice chancellors of Nigerian universities, to furnish the ministry with names of its officials who allegedly demanded and received gratification to release allocations to the universities.

ASUU had in an advertorial on April 22, 2005, alleged that some officials of the Federal Ministry of Finance, demanded gratification from vice chancellors of universities before releasing allocations to them.
However, reacting on Tuesday through her Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, the minister stated that the ministry was willing to act against any of its corrupt staff if proof was provided.
'This is a simple matter. If ASUU or the VCs have any evidence about inappropriate or unlawful demands that were made by officials of the ministry, they should furnish the ministry with the information so that action can be taken.
'It is not very useful making allegations of this nature without going ahead to provide the names of the officials involved as well as provide evidence so that necessary actions can be taken against those who are doing the wrong thing," she said.
