Woji youths sue for understanding...Applaud Eze Gbakagbaka

The caretaker committee of the Woji Youths Association, the umbrella body of youths of Woji town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has asked all youths of the area as well as concerned parents and elders of the town to join hands with it to achieve the election of credible executive

The caretaker committee of the Woji Youths Association, the umbrella body of youths of Woji town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has asked all youths of the area as well as concerned parents and elders of the town to join hands with it to achieve the election of credible executive council to pilot the affairs of the association at the end of its tenure.

Speaking to Telegraph, the committee chairman, Justus Wenenda Chinwo, remarked that the committee was appointed to conduct elections into the executive council of the association following dissolution of the last exco by the council of chiefs and elders of the town.

He stated that the role of the present committee was merely transitional and sued for the understanding of all and sundry to create the conducive and enabling environment for such selfless role to yield the desired result.
The caretaker committee, he said, is yet to commence work due to lack of oneness amongst the youths of the area.

He noted that as soon as there was tranquility and agreement amongst the youths, all eligible candidates would go into elections for a choice of a credible leadership for the association to enable the community forge strongly ahead on its strides.

Mr. Chinwo advised the dissolved executive to bury the hatchet and work with the present committee to achieve progress and harmony in the town. He described the youth association as the watch-dog of Woji community, fully committed to achieving a better society.

Having led the association from its inception in 2000 to 2003 when he handed over power to Mr. Allwell Ogbonda, Mr. Chinwo was adjudged most appropriate to see the association through its transition by the council of chiefs and elders of the town, hence his present appointment.

He commended the Odili-led administration on its strides in the provision of roads and electricity to Woji, but decried the absence of others amenities, specifically drawing government attention to the low-cost housing scheme in the area which, he said, has long been abandoned.

He also appealed to government to rehabilitate roads in the area as much damage has been done to them.

While acknowledging instances of youth restiveness in the town, the committee chairmen, nonetheless, denied the prevalence of cult-related activities in the area, hinting that as part of its self-help effort, the community intends to build a market at the site currently occupied by Bulletin, the construction company handling the Aba road/East-West link road.

Chinwo seized the forum to express the association's gratitude to God Almighty for the honours bestowed on the Paramount Ruler of the town, Eze (Dr.) Frank Eke, the Eze Gbakagbaka of Ikwerre land and the Eze Oha Evo II of Evo Kingdom.
He said, "I feel that if anything happens to anyone from Woji, it happened to Woji. It's a very big honour to Woji people that our father, king, brother and son of the community, Eze Frank Eke (JP) was honoured by the whole Africa with 'the Africa Heroes Award'. This has elevated our community and we congratulate him profoundly on this achievement".

It would be recalled that Eze (Dr.) Frank Eke was recently honoured with the Africa Hero Award, by a group, vision Africa, in recognition of what it called the Eze's humanitarian activities and immeasurable contributions to the economic and social development and leadership role in Nigeria and African countries.

In the caretaker committee also are Peter Eke (sec), Adolphus Chioma (PRO), and three members, Nathan Chuku, Prince Nna Ogbonda and Vincent Wogu.
