Residents of Okija, Anambra State have urged Governor Chris Ngige to perish the thought of taking over the plots of land housing the shrines in the town - Ogwuwu Akpu, Ogwugwu Isiala and Ogwugwu Odigo. They pledged to fight him tooth and nail should he proceed with the decision.

The Igwe-elect of the community, B.I. Okeke, said in Okija that it is not in the Constitution for lands where shrines are located to be taken over by the government and insisted that the state government cannot take over the community land just because corpses have been discovered on it.
Despite the benign interpretation of events by Okeke, the Congress for Igbo Agenda (CIA), a socio-political pressure group, has condemned the activities of patrons and priests of the shrines.
CIA President Peace Innocent said in Lagos that the discoveries are 'at variance with Igbo culture and tradition" which recognise the worship of only one Supreme God.
