A pregnant woman held by the police for smuggling hard drugs into her boyfriend's detention cell has said she engaged in the act because she wanted to keep his spirit high.
Twelve wraps of Indian hemp and 12 sachets of Chelsea dry gin, concealed in a food flask, were seized from Omolara Kehinde, (24), as she tried to smuggle the item into the prison for her boyfriend, Ibrahim Giwa, who is being held in custody for armed robbery.
"I'm doing it all for love," was all she had to say for the act. Omolara is carrying a three-month pregnancy for Giwa.
She told Daily Sun that she couldn't stop loving the boyfriend who had been nice to her, even after she discovered that he was a robber.
Giwa had been on police wanted list for some criminal activities in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Omolara, who met Giwa while working as a salesgirl at a beer parlour, told how the romance began and the amazing way in which she had beaten security to smuggle hemp and liquors to her man.
She said. "Then my boyfriend told me he was a driver and later said he also sold handsets. I've known him for long in that area before he approached me. He said he wanted to marry me.
"We used to lodge in hotels, but he finally got a place. We moved in and started living together. Till today, he still tells me he is not a robber."
Claiming that she never knew that what she did was a criminal offence, Omolara said: "I thought it was okay to bring the hemp and Chelsea to him. I thought other people were doing the same thing.
"I bought the cooked rice at Mushin. I placed the smoke and Chelsea in the flask before I poured the rice on top of it."
Omolara said she bought the Indian hemp and Chelsea at a place called dumping ground in Mushin. And she was shocked that what she had perfectly concealed could easily be discovered.
