The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has sealed off a warehouse belonging to a Chinese firm, which specialises in the importation of substandard spare parts.
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has sealed off a warehouse belonging to a Chinese firm, which specialises in the importation of substandard spare parts. The company allegedly imported fake vehicle bearings with trade name NDC and Taigho, products, which Coscharis Motors has franchise.
The warehouse is located at the ASPAMDA, in the International Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.
Speaking during the sealing off, which was carried out by SON and a team from Coscharis Motors, Head, Legal and Corporate Services of Coscharis Motors, Mr. Alex Nosike, said the activities of the Chinese firm amounted to economic sabotage.
"They do not have any papers authorising them to import these auto products. Worse of all, the products are being faked by the same people and imported into the country," he said.
Nosike lamented that the criminal activities of these Asians are being aided by Nigerians, especially traders at ASPAMDA, adding that "the traders have first hand knowledge of the practice but have refused to speak out because they are making fortune from the illegal deal."
He said the Chinese firm does not issue receipts to those who bought their faked products in order not to expose its activities.
On how Coscharis Motors unearthed the activities of the Chinese firm, he said that the company carried out a market survey and discovered that some NDC and Taigho bearings in the market were fake, adding that laboratory test confirmed that the products were substandard.
"The funny thing is that their package more attractive than the original one. Also, their fake product attracted lower price than ours. This was the bait they used to get the traders, who made much gains from selling these fake products."
On his part, Mr. Alade Olumide of SON said the activities of the Chinese firm apart from being economic sabotage, pose great danger to the populace.
