President Oluegun Obasanjo at the weekend in Abuja called on Nigerian women to rise to the challenges of mobilising themselves to promote womanhood in the country. He gave the charge at the launch of "Women of Valour, Soldiers of the Cross," a non-government organisation, established by Mrs Mary Victoria Mbu.

The President, who was represented by the Minister for Women affairs, Obong Rita Akpan pledged government's support for women in the arduous task of repositioning themselves and urged Nigerian women not to despair in their efforts to bring about a sane society which would be the pride of all.

The Chairman of the occasion and former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche commended Mrs Mbu for translating her vision into reality. Present were the Director General of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Dora Akunyili; Special Adviser to the President on inter party matters, Owelle Rochas Okorocha; Special Adviser to the President on legal matters, Chief Ojo Maduekwe and Air Vice Marshall S.A.
