Rwanda 2009 U-20 AYC: Why Bosso Dropped Akinsola

Coach of the National U-20 Flying Eagles, Ladan Bosso, has described the dropping of former Golden Eaglets' super substitute, Kabiru Akinsola, from his team to the African Youth Championship (AYC) in Rwanda, as a decision by the coaching crew, adding that it was inevitable.

The Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia's new sign-in was surprisingly dropped from Nigeria's 18-man squad to the AYC, released by coach Bosso, yesterday. Speaking on why he took the decision, Bosso said the 18-year-old player came late to the Flying Eagles' camp in Abuja.

'We still gave the player the opportunity to prove himself, but he could not measure up to the standard we expected. I've said it time without number that there is no automatic shirt for any player in the team. We have no other choice than to drop Akinsola from the trip to Rwanda,' said Bosso, who was the assistant coach to Godwin Uwua, in the last AYC, in Togo. He was also the Flying Eagles' handler to the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship (WYC).

He, however, allayed fears that the Nigerian team will miss the service of the former Eaglets' super substitute, who always scored goals whenever he was substituted in the late Yemi Tella's team to the African Junior Championship in Benin and the 2007 FIFA World Cup in Korea.
