OGD Rejects Ijebu Monarch’s Plea

A plea by the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul Razaq Adenugba, to governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state, to lift the suspension placed on the chairman of Ijebu North Local Government Council, Alhaji Tele Ogunjobi, has been rejected by the governor.

The monarch, who made the plea during the swearing-in ceremony of new members into boards of parastatals and agencies in the state, however, felt disappointed at the response of the governor.

Oba Adenugba had appealed to the state governor and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, to forgive the embattled local government chairman, saying that, by now, he must have learnt his lessons.

“By now, I know he has learnt his lessons. The elders used to say if you use the right hand to smirk a child, you will use the left hand to draw him nearer. The chairman would by now know whom to wait for and whom to run away from.

”I am appealing to the state governor and the party executives to temper justice with mercy. You know he is my son, he is from my town. I assure you that all the problems would be solved at home. He and his followers have now seen the end of the whole show,” Oba Adenugba stated.

Reacting to the plea, Otunba Daniel said: “The government will not fold its arms and allow some disgruntled elements discredit it or forment trouble in the state. Everybody should stand up to his responsibilities. Whoever fails in his duty would be penalised.

“Political office holders should see that the trust reposed in them to lead the people is not betrayed. ”The traditional rulers, who are the custodians of our traditions and culture, should ensure that they protect them very well and not wade into any issue that is not within their jurisdiction or that can discredit them.”

Governor Daniel later advised the newly sworn-in members of government agencies and parastatals to see their call as a big challenge and an avenue to contribute their own quota to the development of the state.

He charged them to live up to expectation in their various boards, as history will judge all of them in the future. Among those that were sworn-in are Aremo Taiwo Alimi (Gateway Television), Otunba Laide Oropo (Sports Council); Bashorun Toye Alatishe, former Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Council, who was sworn-in as the first Executive Secretary of the Primary Healthcare Board, among others.

This is a great piece of history, which is dear to our hearts as people and very much appreciated.

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
