Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Gunmen attacked an offshore oil facility run by Exxon Mobil Corp., the largest U.S. oil company, in southeastern Nigeria and robbed workers on board.
The attackers boarded an oil platform and support vessels late on Jan. 6, Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil said in an e- mailed statement today. It gave no details of what was taken by the attackers.
'Production was not impacted by the incident,' the company said, adding that it reported the matter to Nigerian security agencies.
Attacks by armed groups in the southern Niger Delta, which accounts for nearly all of Nigeria's crude output, have cut the country's exports by more than 20 percent since 2006. Nigeria is Africa's leading oil exporter and the fifth-biggest source of U.S. oil imports.
