Northern Union Meets South-South Leaders Tomorrow


The Northern Union council of elders will meet their south-south counterparts in order to consolidate the long relationship that exists between them.The meeting which is billed for tomorrow will enable the leaders of the two national communities to "frankly" discuss the present crisis in the restive Niger Delta region, a statement signed by director of mobilization of the Northern Union has said.

It said, "The Northern Union Council of Elders led by its leader, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki (Wazirin Ilorin), is to commence a meeting with leaders of south-south geopolitical zone from Wednesday 7th-Friday 9th January, 2009".

It added that the leaders will discuss the youth restiveness and its implications for the economy, national development and security in the country at large.

The statement said: "The meeting is also aimed at tackling the challenges of the development of the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole so as to complement the efforts of the Federal Government to meet its national development goal encapsulated in the seven point agenda".
