Tears flowed freely at Bankole Compound, Akute, a suburb of Ogun state, this morning, as two kids, Dada, 13 and Yisa Bankole, 10, drowned in the Ogun River that runs through Akute-Odo, Akute.
The two kids, whose bodies are yet to be recovered from the river, drowned at about 7 p.m., yesterday. P.M.News gathered that the incident occurred when Yisa, who had gone to the river bank to help his father, Chief Bankole, in his farm, saw that his friend, Dada, was drowning.
'So he quickly pulled off his shorts and attempted to save Dada, but unfortunately, Dada dragged Yisa and both of them fell into the river and drowned. All my efforts to rescue them was in vain, it is sad,' Chief Bankole said.
The late Yisa, P.M.News further gathered, had been helping his father in the farming business since he was four years old. When P.M.News visited his Bankole Compound, Akute, residence, this morning, there was a crowd of sympathisers weeping.
According to Kayode, one of the sympathisers who spoke with P.M.News, the late Yisa was a very hardworking and brilliant boy who is loved by everyone in the neighbourhood.
