The Lagos state Action Congress (AC) has commenced the refund of the application fees paid by some councillorship aspirants of the party in the last local government primary election.
The payment of the N20,000 refund to each of the aspirants that were asked to step down during the primary, started on New Year's eve, and was still being paid as at this morning, at the party's state secretariat, Acme Road, Ogba.
The list of beneficiaries made available to P.M.News shows that over 2,500 unelected councillorship aspirants from the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs in the state, will collect a total of N5 million from the party.
The payment of the refund was in fulfilment of the promise made by the party leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at a stakeholders' meeting, last September.
At the meeting, a week to the 11 October, 2008, local government election in the state, the former Lagos state governor had said those who complied with the decision of the party leadership urging them to step down, would be adequately compensated.
Some of the councillorship aspirants have, however, forfeited the refund, as they have been compensated with political appointments in the LGs and LCDAs.
