Ogun PDP Crisis Fallout: Fuji Musician Shot Dead

The crisis in the Ogun state PDP has claimed the life of a popular fuji musician in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state, Alhaji Adekunle Adeboye, a.k.a. Lobito.

The crisis in the Ogun state PDP has claimed the life of a popular fuji musician in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state, Alhaji Adekunle Adeboye, a.k.a. Lobito.

The late Adeboye, 43, who is also the youth leader of PDP in Ward 9, Ijebu North Local Government Area, was shot dead at the party's secretariat in Abeokuta, during a shootout between rival groups.

When P.M.News visited the residence of the deceased, at 18, Odosinusi Road, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state, sympathisers were seen commiserating with the family.

Speaking with a brother of the deceased, Mr. Adewale Adeboye, a.k.a., White, he said: 'My brother's death is a big blow to the family. Our parents are in agony now. We are seven in the family; five have died, leaving me and Lobito. Now, he has been shot dead. He entertained his fans on Saturday, 28 December, alongside another popular fuji musician, Sandoka, in Ago-Iwoye, and he was billed to perform on new year's eve before he met his untimely death. I am the only one remaining,' he lamented.

The late speaker of the Fuji Musician Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), Ijebu North Local Government Area, was among the youths who stormed the party's secretariat in Abeokuta, when the party leadership invited the suspended local government chairman, Alhaji Tele Ogunjobi, on the crisis rocking the party in Ago-Iwoye.

A close source to the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said Lobito was paid back in his own coin. 'Lobito was killed in retaliation for the death of a member of a rival group. The other faction descended on him and gunned him down too.

'My fear now is the reprisal attack which his people promised would be brutal when his corpse is brought to Ago-Iwoye for burial. I am using this medium to alert those concerned to beef up security in the town,' he pleaded.

Speaking with the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Abiola Adeboye, she lamented: 'Lobito has left me with four kids to cater for without anything on ground. They killed him for nothing. He promised to do a lot for me this year. Now, they have killed him. Many of his dependants are affected, including members of his band, business associates and so on. His aged parents, who relied solely on him for survival, are now suffering. I want the government to arrest his killers and bring them to book.'

Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Otunba Segun Adekoya, visited the residence of the deceased, who was one of his loyalists at the weekend, to finalise arrangements for his burial.

He was accompanied by a former member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. J.K. Olaitan. A close aide of the commissioner's told P.M.News that 'the corpse is presently at a mortuary in Abeokuta, and the family had concluded that the body would be buried in front of their house, on Monday or Tuesday.'
