A jealous housewife has stabbed her husband to death, in their home, at 12, Anuoluwapo Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.
Trouble started when 32-year-old trailer mechanic, Mr. Seyi Akinwunmi, and his 25-year-old wife, Yetunde Akinwunmi, both from Ogun state, were having their dinner and her husband received a phone call.
Suspecting that the call was from a lady, Yetunde demanded to know who the caller was. Seyi denied that the call was from a woman, but the wife was not satisfied with her husband's explanation.
Their argument resulted in a fight and the angry wife picked up the knife they had earlier used to open a tin of milk, and stabbed him below the chest. Akinwunmi was rushed to the General Hospital, Ikeja, where doctors battled to save his life, but he did not make it. He died after the surgery.
After the death of Akinwunmi, the wife fled their home. She later showed up when she heard that her parents had been picked up, and she was detained at Alapere police station.
When P.M.News visited the station, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was not around, and efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, on phone, proved abortive. A tearful Yetunde Akinwunmi, who spoke to our reporter, claimed it was the devil's work.
She said they got married in 2006 and that their only child is dead. 'I don't know what came over me; it was the devil's work. I didn't mean to kill my husband,' she lamented.
A senior police officer said she will be transferred to the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, for further interrogation.
